Art for Unity
“Art for Unity” is a project implemented in 2011 and targeted 11 public high schools in Lebanon. The project aimed at developing a sustainable model related to integrating extra-curricular activities into curricula through promoting social cohesion, peace building and network building among school children using performing and plastic arts. The project methodology was based on building the skills of teachers regarding club formation, social cohesion, peace building, citizenship, communication, and reconciliation and facilitation skills in addition to gender equality through using a constructive methodology and integrating interactive art tools. The students formed school clubs in each of the 11 targeted schools and dealt with issues that concern their society using arts and theatre to express themselves freely. 235 students showcased their work in a street festival that took place in down town Beirut.
