Grassroots in Action for Peace Building
“Grassroots in Action for Peace building” aimed at strengthening the capacity of local municipalities and civil society organizations on values and concepts of peace and to promote mediation and dialogue initiatives in order to decrease tension at the local level. The project worked on strengthening the role of municipalities in promoting local reconciliation by equipping them with the needed knowledge and skills to analyze local conflict and to conduct mediation and dialogue activities in addition to implementing conflict prevention activities. Peace Building Units were formed in each of the 4 municipalities that were targeted in this pilot project: Al-Mina in North Lebanon, Chiyah in Mount Lebanon, Tyre in the South and Baalbeck in Bekaa. The selection of these municipalities ensured representation of Lebanon’s geographical regions, religious, ethnic and political backgrounds.
